Mummies’ Boy
Premise: Coming of age comedy about an 11 year-old boy who, in order to fit in at school, denies having two gay mums, and embarks on finding his sperm donor father.
Synopsis: Desperate to fit in to his new school, 11 year-old Jonah lies about having two Mums and spins tales about a sports-hero dad, which present him problems – not least when he’s challenged to present him at the forthcoming Fathers’ Football Match.
With help from his “Granddad”, Jonah tracks the sperm-donor who gave him life, but is disappointed to discover he’s a prison convict (Tony) with a criminal record as long as his arm. When the fact spills out at school, Jonah ironically finds his connection with the underworld gains him the street-cred and inclusion he craved.
Jonah continues to lie to and about his mums, however, so when Tony announces his imminent release and intention to play at the game, the truth – all of it – unravels. Feeling guilty at home and ostracised at school, Jonah decides to run away, and finds himself free to decide who he really is, and where he wants to be.
